Little Crumbles is a Child -Led PLAY BASED Childcare supporting how young children actually develop literacy- "Child-Led play leads to early literacy. Play does not have to connect directly to a literacy-based activity to support literacy. In fact, a child cannot play without building skills that will support them when it comes to reading and writing" Author, Susan Benge, M.S. THE WHOLE CHILD ALPHABET
Our Day consists of indoor and outdoor time. "Toys/Materials" are selected, set out and rotated to develop literacy and skills through tasks and activities . Weather permitting children are outside 70% of the day. Supplies are cleaned and sanitized regularly, some items daily.
Sharing/Taking Turns is encouraged. Sharing assumes ownership. Taking turns is easily understood and presented with excitement. Items from home may be shared and will be put in a safe place if necessary.
Discipline Natural consequence is a good teacher. Safety is foremost. Gentleness, kindness, patience, self control are taught by example. Established consistent boundaries encourage self discipline. We use age appropriate timeout. TIME IN, is a stop and reflect moment. An adult is present to bring a healthy conclusion that continues friendships. If an incident was between children they are never forced to say sorry. They are encouraged to give a soft touch of friendship to acknowledge that it is ok.
Naps/Rests are for every one, some have a quiet time, some may sleep and the ones that sleep are not woken unless requested to.
Potty Assist that supports the progress of routines started at home is provided through encouraging conversations, gentle peer pressure and time.
Meals Children always sit while eating and drinking. Meals are a social time around the table or in 1of 5 high chairs. They learn to feed themselves when able, learn and use manners and taste new foods. Many discoveries are made around the table and new foods are interesting when your friend is eating it.
Morning Schedule:
Afternoon Schedule
Your child will have been loved, nurtured, well fed and rested so they are ready to spend the remainder of their day and night with their family.
One of the joys of serving children as young as 3 months to age 5 years is helping children experience being connected with someone younger or older throughout the day. It is a natural family setting.
